The Sonneveld Huis (Sonneveld House) is one of the best-preserved houses in the Nieuwe Bouwen, or Dutch Functionalist style.

The Sonneveld Huis (Sonneveld House) is one of the best-preserved houses in the Nieuwe Bouwen, or Dutch Functionalist style. It was designed by 1933 by Leen van der Vlugt as an ultramodern residence for the Sonneveld family.

Van der Vlugt was part of the Brinkman & Van der Vlught architecture firm, also known for the Van Nelle Design Factory and Feyenoord Football Stadium, also in Rotterdam. Mr. Albertus Sonneveld, director of the Van Nelle Factory, wanted him and his family to live in a luxurious home that fit his progressive design views and modern aesthetics.
